Ice Fishing

Has anybody been successful at ice fishing? Did you use lures or live bait? Which end of the lake? Did you catch any keepers?

I drilled a hole in the ice with an auger, I couldn't believe how thick the ice was. It had to be 6-8 inches thick. It took my buddy and me 1/2 hour to drill through the ice. When we finally drilled through there was only about 2 feet of water underneath. Haha. We were out a good distance, but didn't think they drained the lake that far down. We decided to forget it and went in and had a few beers. :-)

Maybe you were in the right area:

"Two of the more popular and widely distributed species "ice fish" are the chain pickerel and yellow perch. Both species are generally found in shallow depths (less than 15 feet) associated with aquatic vegetation."

I would have been ok if it was less than 15 feet but I think it has to be deeper than 2 feet where the water is still warm. Thanks for the article though.

I can't believe it took you 30 minutes to drill a hole in the ice. You should spend less time ice fishing and more time at the gym!
