Local Ice Skating Rinks?Does anybody know of any local ice skating rinks besides NYC. Indoor / outdoor? But it wasn't really frozen yesterday. I don't know how thick it could be after one day. I'll go throw some rocks on it tomorrow and see. My cove area seems to be slow to freeze. starrbettyJan '09 I went and looked at the ice today too. I hit it with a 2 x 4 and it seemed solid but I could see the bottom of the lake at the edge. If I can see through the ice then its too thin for me. Call me a chicken too, but I am with starrbetty and would wait for a few more days in the 20's. Travis Jan '09 Looks like some of the ice melted today......I wouldn't go on to it yet. I too have seen people out there but I wouldn't trust it.....you'll end up like George Bailey. I did see people at the south end of the lake, but there's also a lot less water down there since the drained it. BethJan '09 Its getting pretty cold again and is supposed to stay cold for awhile. Probably be ok to go out on the ice in a few days. I will watch for people out on the ice. I think it would be ok to go out, but I am not encouraging anyone. I took some pictures around Bertrand Island, the one is at the Yacht Club. Travis Jan '09 I don't think the ice is safe anymore. But a few sources say typically ice needs to be 4 inches thick to walk on. The following link gives good facts about ice from the Army Corp of Engineers.
