BEAR in Hopatcong!!Can some people let me know what wildlife Hopatcong has?? I know Hopatcong definitely gets deer but is there any other wildlife?? Bear, coyote, bobcats, anything?? Thanks!! In northern Jersey there are bears, so yes, Hopatcong as well as the surrounding areas have bears. Unless you live deep in the woods you only see them every now and then. When they do come around they are usually looking for bird seed or trash and can usually be easily scared away by yelling or by a barking dog. I haven't heard of coyote or bobcats in the area. You see the occasional fox, but they are small and harmless. Northern NJ is home to many omnivorous animals. Eastern coyotes, bobcats, red/gray fox, bear, golden eagles, peregrine falcons, and a variety of owls come to mind. With the exception of a bear on trash pickup day, chances are you will never see these guys unless you spend a lot of time in more rural areas. Oct '09 Looks like an abundant acorn crop is to blame for extra bears in the area. Nov '09 Leave a ReplyTo comment on this topic, fill out the form below.
