Independence Fireworks on the Lake

When are they this year? The Yacht Club web site says July 2nd at 9:15 pm, but is that from last year or for this year?

That seems kind of silly since the 4th is on a Saturday this year. Saturday would be a perfect day. The 2nd was on a Wednesday in 2008 and is on a Thursday this year. Hmm either way doesn't make much sense??

Maybe they don't want it on the 4th figuring people may have other plans and it also may avoid the issue with out of towner's causing a traffic problems.

Found a few other web sites with dates in the past and it seems they don't have it on the 4th.

Besides by boat, any recommendations of a good place to watch them?

Bertrand's Island is usually a good place since the Lake Hopatcong Yaht club sets them off, but the police block off the road and limit the people who come in. Looks like the weather for Thursday is rain. Hopefully it will rain in the morning and be clear or partly cloudy by 9:15 for the fireworks. Does anybody know if they have a rain date?

I am new to the area and would like to watch the fireworks tonight as well. Any other good places besides Bertrand's Island that are free/easy to get to? Looks like the weather is clearing up now...

Looks like they postponed the fireworks until Sunday July 5th 2009. However the weather is beautiful and they are no longer calling for rain or thunderstorms tonight.

You might be able to watch them from the state park, I don't know that it's free though.
